Arboretum Volcji Potok

General Rudolf Maister

The Legend of Veronika
Countess Veronika was cursed into a half-woman, half-snake for refusing to donate to priests. She was swallowed by the earth and still waits in the castle for her rescuer. Veronika appears in the Kamnik municipal coat of arms, making this legend central to the town's identity.

500 Years of Shepherds
The pastoral settlement on Velika Planina has over 500 years of tradition. Each summer, shepherds bring their cattle to the high pastures. The Preskarjev Museum is the only hut rebuilt to its original architecture after WWII - its door was famously made from wreckage of a crashed Allied bomber.

The Motnik Snail
According to legend, a giant snail was once chained in Motnik. When it escaped, it rampaged through Zalec, leaving destruction in its wake. This colorful legend is part of the rich folklore tradition collected by Gasper Kriznik, born in Motnik, whose Kriznikov pravljicni festival is held annually.
