About This Trip
The most prominent karst formation. Predjama Castle holds the Guinness World Record as the largest cave castle. Legend of knight Erasmus - Slovenia's Robin Hood.
Program
We start our trip with a visit to the most impressive cave castle in the world, Predjama Castle, that holds the Guinness World Record for the largest cave castle. Its knight and master, Erasmus of Predjama, led an adventurous life, not unlike England's Robin Hood. He was besieged in his castle for a year and a day! After the visit to the castle, we enjoy a coffee break and continue to the main attraction of the day - Postojna Cave. The cave was first opened in 1819 for the visit of Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I. Today, we ride the electric underground railway through the cave, admiring the stunning limestone formations. In the cave, we'll also have the opportunity to see the famous 'baby dragons' - the olms (Proteus anguinus), a unique cave-dwelling amphibian. After the cave tour, we visit the interactive exhibition about the cave's ecosystem. We return via the Ravbar tower.
